Without counting numerous sakè flights on a lot of local Japanese restaurants here in SoCal - my active search and try-outs really started at the reizō and jōon sections of a Japanese Konbini during several trips to Japan. Believe it or not, there are a lot of decent sakè from some of those single-serve glass cups, and tin bottles found on the shelves of Family Mart. The pandemic led to a more thorough online retailer search in the US and that led me to Tippsy.

I don't remember my first time drinking sake, but I do remember my first time drinking sake hot! On a trip to Japan back in winter of 2016, I stop for sushi somewhere near Tokyo Station. I stood next to a gentleman who was enjoying his sushi with a hot beverage. Curious, using the little Japanese I knew, I asked what the drink was and it surprised me that sake could be enjoyed hot. It was an amazing experience because the gentleman offered me a cup and it paired so well with my otoro! Thinking of it makes me miss that winter in Japan.
